There are few better ways to spend a winter afternoon than with a pot of tea, a stand of sandwiches and something sweet. Whether it’s a birthday, a catch-up with friends or a treat after a walk, Wrexham has some lovely places to do it. Here are our members’ favourites.

The Lemon Tree, city centre. A Grade II listed hotel on Rhosddu Road, a short walk from the city centre shops. Known for its breakfasts, it also serves afternoon tea, and it’s an easy stop before a show or a match.

Maesgwyn Hall, Mold Road. A landmark Wrexham venue close to the Racecourse, serving lunches and afternoon tea as well as hosting weddings and parties. A good choice for a bigger group or a special occasion.

Caffi Wylfa, Chirk. Artisan coffee, fresh local food, afternoon teas and celebration cakes, with a heated, dog friendly terrace. Pair it with Christmas at Chirk Castle, where The Snow Queen runs from 28 November to 3 January.

Lot 11 Cafe, Hill Street. Best known for its Aussie style brunch and great coffee, Lot 11 serves afternoon tea too. It’s walk in only and dog friendly, with outside seating.

The Fat Boar, Yorke Street. For something with a bit more fizz, The Fat Boar’s tipsy teas bring cocktails into the mix, in a stylish independent restaurant and bar in the heart of the city.

A festive afternoon tea at Rossett Hall. On Sunday 6 and Sunday 13 December, Rossett Hall serves afternoon tea with seasonal treats. Booking is essential on 01244 571000.

Afternoon tea is popular, especially at weekends and in the run up to Christmas, so it’s worth booking ahead and letting the venue know about any dietary needs. For more ideas, see our afternoon tea guide, and check What’s On to find something to do before or after.
