Wrexham is easy to reach by road and rail: it sits on the A483 just south of Chester, has two railway stations and a direct train to London, and Manchester and Liverpool airports are both about an hour away. This guide covers getting here and getting around once you arrive.
BY TRAIN
Wrexham General is the main station, next to the Racecourse on Mold Road and a short walk from the city centre. Transport for Wales trains run to Chester in about 20 minutes, with two trains an hour since December 2025, and to Shrewsbury in about 50 minutes. Birmingham is about two hours and Cardiff about three and a half hours, both via Shrewsbury.
From London: Avanti West Coast runs a direct service between London Euston and Wrexham General, taking about two hours 35 minutes. Most other journeys from London, Manchester and Liverpool change at Chester.
Wrexham Central is in the city centre and is the end of the Borderlands line to Bidston on the Wirral, with trains about once an hour and Merseyrail connections to Liverpool.

BY CAR
The A483 runs past Wrexham, linking it to Chester and the A55 to the north and to Oswestry and Shrewsbury to the south. From the north west of England, follow the M53 or M56 to Chester and then the A483. The city centre has several pay and display car parks, and there is no parking at the Racecourse on match days. See our matchday guide for match day travel.
BY AIR
Manchester Airport is about 45 miles away: around 50 minutes by car, or about 90 minutes by train with a change at Chester.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is about 40 miles away. There is no direct rail link, so take a bus into Liverpool and a train via Chester, or book a transfer.
Birmingham Airport is about 80 miles away, around two hours by train from Birmingham International via Shrewsbury.
Wrexham Chauffeurs, one of our members, runs airport transfers in executive cars 24 hours a day.
GETTING AROUND
On foot: the city centre is compact. The shops, museums, Tŷ Pawb, St Giles and most restaurants are within a few minutes of each other, and the Racecourse is a short walk away.
By bus: local buses leave from the bus station in the city centre to the villages and the country parks. Plan your journey with Traveline Cymru.
By taxi or private hire: for days out, transfers and evenings, book Wrexham Chauffeurs.
