Racing, golf and sport in Wrexham
Sport beyond football in Wrexham: jump racing at Bangor-on-Dee, pay and play golf at Clays, fishing and paddle boarding, swimming at Waterworld, and international football at the Racecourse.

Jump racing horses on the track at Bangor on Dee Racecourse
Football gets the headlines, but Wrexham has plenty more for sports fans: jump racing on the banks of the Dee, pay and play golf with a floodlit driving range, fishing and paddle boarding on country lakes, and a leisure centre with a 65 metre flume. Here’s where to go, starting with our members.
RACING AT BANGOR-ON-DEE
Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse hosts National Hunt jump racing on the banks of the River Dee, about five miles south east of Wrexham.
Under 18s go free on all race days, and parking is free.
A free bus service runs on race days, and Wrexham General is the nearest station.
There’s no dress code on the course, but no denim, trainers or sportswear in the restaurants and hospitality.
Coming up: The Festive Meeting on Saturday 28 November 2026 and the Christmas Jumper Day meeting on Friday 11 December 2026.
See all fixtures on the Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse website. For lunch nearby, The Buck is in the village.
GOLF
Clays Golf on Bryn Estyn Road: an 18 hole parkland course (par 69) open to visitors on a pay and play basis, with no membership needed. There’s a floodlit driving range with Toptracer, a short game zone, the Just Your Putter adventure putting course, PGA coaching, a clubhouse bar and buggy hire.
The Plassey in Eyton: a nine hole golf course at the holiday park in the Dee Valley.
ON THE WATER
Acorn Commonwood in Holt: fishing and paddle boarding across 60 acres of lakes and woodland.
Clays Touring in Holt: two private fishing lakes next to the golf course.
Waterworld on Holt Street: a swimming pool with rapids and a 65 metre flume.
INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL AT THE RACECOURSE
The Racecourse hosted its first Wales international in 1877 and is the oldest stadium in the world still hosting international matches. For Wrexham AFC games, see our matchday guide, and for the story of the game in Wales, visit the Football Museum of Wales and Wrexham Museum.
STAY AND PLAY
