Wrexham’s own drinks: the revived Wrexham Lager brewery and shop, mead made from Welsh honey, award winning ales at the Magic Dragon Brewery Tap and the Wrexham Lager Club.

Wrexham has a long brewing history, and it was one of the first places in Britain to brew lager. Today you can visit the revived Wrexham Lager brewery, taste mead made from Welsh honey, drink award winning ales at a brewery tap and raise a glass in the social club that grew up beside the old brewery. Here’s where to find the city’s own drinks.
WREXHAM LAGER
Wrexham Lager dates itself to 1882 and is often described as the first lager brewed in Britain. The original brewery closed in the early 2000s, and the brand was revived in Wrexham in 2011. Today it brews Wrexham Lager (4%), Wrexham Pilsener (4.6%) and Wrexham Export (5%).
Brewery shop: 42 St George’s Crescent, for bottles, crates, kegs, glassware, clothing and gifts.
Tours: the Wrexham Taster half day tour is available on request.
Down the road, Wrexham Lager Club on Union Road grew up alongside the brewery and has an original window from the Cross Foxes, the first pub the brewery bought, in its function room.
MEAD MADE FROM WELSH HONEY
Stone Circle Mead on Rhosnesni Lane is a family run meadery making traditional, oak aged mead from Welsh honey with local and foraged fruits, flowers and herbs. Contact the meadery to book a tasting tour (over 18s only), and buy meads on site or online.
ALES BREWED IN THE COUNTY
The Magic Dragon Brewery Tap on Charles Street is the taproom of Magic Dragon Brewing, pouring its own cask and keg ales plus guest beers. It has been named CAMRA Pub of the Year for Wales and is in the Good Beer Guide 2027. It opens daily, from 4pm Monday to Wednesday, 1pm on Thursday, 12pm on Friday and Saturday, and 2pm on Sunday, with live music, open mic and quiz nights.
