One day or a weekend in Wrexham

A plan for a day or a weekend in Wrexham: St Giles, the Football Museum, Tŷ Pawb and High Street in the city, then Erddig, Chirk Castle and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

Erddig Hall and its formal gardens, Wrexham

Got a day or a weekend in Wrexham? This plan gets the best of the city and the countryside around it: a medieval church, the national football museum, a country house, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and plenty of good food and drink, all with local members. Swap things around to suit the weather and your interests.

ONE DAY IN THE CITY

DAY TWO: COUNTRY HOUSES AND THE AQUEDUCT

  • Morning: explore Erddig, the National Trust house two miles from the city, and walk its 1,200 acre estate.

  • Lunch: head south to Chirk for lunch at Caffi Wylfa.

  • Afternoon: visit Chirk Castle, then walk or take a boat across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct from Trevor Basin.

  • Evening: dinner at a riverside country pub, The Boat in Erbistock or The Buck in Bangor-on-Dee. Book ahead.

IF YOU’RE HERE FOR THE FOOTBALL

Build the weekend around the match: see our matchday guide for tickets, travel and pre-match pubs, and book the Welcome to Wrexham Tour for the places from the documentary.

WITH CHILDREN

Swap in Xplore!, Felting With Ewe, Tŷ Mawr Country Park or adventure putting at Clays Golf. See things to do with kids.

IF IT RAINS

Most of day one is indoors. For more ideas, see rainy day Wrexham.

WHERE TO STAY

For a city weekend, stay at The Lemon Tree, Ramada Plaza or Boutique 33. For the countryside, try Rossett Hall Hotel, Hotel Wrexham or The Hand at Llanarmon. See where to stay in Wrexham and getting to and around Wrexham.

Checked on 8 November 2026. Opening times change, especially out of season, so please check before you travel.
